The dog is an active and a curious animal. Dogs regularly dig around trash and have contact with other animals. Though this can appear funny, people don’t notice this can cause issues in the condition of the pet – a major one being worms.

Worms are said to be internal parasites and  can be seen straight away when the dog excretes them in the stool. There are some that can only be seen by a microscope once a blood sample has been taken.

Once these parasites have entered the dog’s digestion, the probabilities of survival are awfully slim. The single thing the owner can do is offer liquids and some medication that will hopefully reinforce the pet’s immunity mechanism and hopefully kill the worms.  In all instances they present sever problems to a dog’s health and a vet must be consulted immediately.

Hookworms are a type of worm that can be attracted from the garden and customarily grow from twelve to fifteen. They suck on the blood. Puppies are very susceptible and  can die even before the worms come out in the feces. This is the reason why puppies  should should be frequently brought to the vet for testing. An important note to remember is that this particular worm  isn’t only contagious to dogs but to humans too.

Tapeworms  are  long up 15 feet long and sometimes live in the intestinal tract of the animal. These may also be found in the anus and include fleas that suck on the blood of the animal. This is often cured using prescribed medicine since standard vaccination doesn’t work.

Roundworms look like spaghetti noodles when they come out of the feces of the dog. Though some may come out, there are still some that stay in the body and  can multiply more if correct treatment isn’t administered. The only way to battle this is also using prescribed medicine.

Whipworms are  a mix of both the tape and the round worm. These are typically found in the bowel area and have an incubation of 3 months before coming out.

Heartworms can be found close to the heart and only a blood sample can show their existence.  Most puppies that are infected die of this illness, that is why again, it is very important to take your puppies to the vet for regular checkups. The best defense against these parasites will be to bring the dog to the vet and giving it  shots . These can be bought without a medical prescription and should be used using the proper dosage.
At home, dog owners can start by ensuring the dog kennel or bedding is clean at all times. When a dog is struck by worms, the immune system may either fight or give up. A lot of dogs will die while those that do survive will have some side effects that will affect the dog’s  health for the remainder of its life
